I am a British Wheel of Yoga Accredited Teacher and teach Birthlight pregnancy and postnatal yoga classes in Chelmsford and the surrounding areas, after training to an advanced level with Francoise Freedman, founder of Birthlight. I loved practising pregnancy yoga throughout both my pregnancies with my daughters, now 9 and 10!

Pregnancy yoga is very different from traditional forms of yoga, the emphasis being on nurturing the mother and gently preparing her for the birth and beyond, not just physically but also emotionally. It helps to keep the body strong and toned but without any strain and importantly it gives women time to relax and focus on themselves and also bonding with their baby.

Pregnancy yoga classes are suitable from 14 weeks right up until the birth and no previous experience of yoga is required.

I keep my class sizes small to allow for individual attention and within the classes we focus on gentle stretching, movement, breathing and relaxation which are all specifically tailored to the needs of each woman according to her needs and the stage of her pregnancy.

I currently run the following pregnancy yoga classes:

Mondays 11.25am-12.15pm Galleywood Heritage Centre  (term time only)

Mondays 7-8pm Hamptons Sport & Leisure (formerly The Marconi Club), Chelmsford

Mondays 8-9pm Hamptons Sport & Leisure (formerly The Marconi Club), Chelmsford

Thursdays 7-8pm Hamptons Sport & Leisure (formerly The Marconi Club), Chelmsford with Debbie

Thursday 8-9pm Hamptons Sport & Leisure (formerly The Marconi Club), Chelmsford with Debbie

Saturdays 11am-12pm The Hummingbird Centre, Writtle, Chelmsford

Saturdays 12.15-1.15pm The Hummingbird Centre, Writtle, Chelmsford

I also run regular pregnancy relaxation workshops, please see the Events and Workshops page for full details and upcoming dates.

Postnatal yoga courses run in six week blocks, they can be started as soon as the woman feels ready after the birth. Babies are brought along to class.

The focus with postnatal yoga is to use gentle exercise and breathing techniques to regain physical strength, tone muscles, re-stabilise the pelvis and lower back, enjoy relaxation and develop a closer bond with your baby.

Postnatal yoga courses run on a Wednesday 11am-12pm and 12-1pm at The Hummingbird Centre, Writtle, Chelmsford.

Mother & baby classes run as a follow-on to the postnatal course on a Wednesday, at 10am and 11am with Sarah at Total Sport Therapy, Chelmsford.
